The ever increasing availability of 3D models and CT scans is increasing virtual fossil representations in scientific papers, allowing non-invasive anatomical studies of both external and internal morphological structures. This provides crucial advancement for the study of rare and delicate fossil specimens that are often accessible to a minority of scholars. Despite the benefits provided by 3D models, virtual data are poorly shared and new methodologies usually do not easily reach different scholars, in particular younger researchers.
This session would provides a comprehensive overview on virtual fossil representations and applications for future perspectives in conservation, data sharing and research.
