The session here proposed aims to present an innovative framework for the study of geomaterials and sites of cultural interest, integrating archaeometry, degradation diagnostics, and environmental risk evaluation from a multiscale and interdisciplinary perspective. For Cultural Heritage, Earth Sciences represent a fundamental reference for characterizing natural and artificial materials used to produce artifacts and architectural elements, reconstructing their provenances and trade routes, manufacturing technologies and technological skills of past societies. The session welcomes contributions focused on the processes of alteration and deterioration, as well as their implications for preventative conservation and sustainable heritage management. Special attention will be given to advanced, non-invasive methodologies, including, among others, remote sensing and 3D surveys, new high-fidelity representations, and data interpretation supported by artificial intelligence models for material classification, current state of conservation, and monitoring over time. The aim is to foster dialogue between researchers and professionals, promoting integrated multi-analytical approaches for the knowledge, protection, and sustainable conservation of cultural and geoheritage heritage.
